Nigeria Aquatics Federation Partners NUGA to Discover Future Stars

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) says its partnership with the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) is aimed at discovering and nurturing young swimming talents who will grow into future superstars in the sport.

President of the Federation, Dukwu Chamberlain, stated this in Abuja during the 27th edition of the Nigeria University Games, where swimming events were held in collaboration with the Aquatics Federation. He said the partnership has already begun to yield results, with several promising athletes emerging from the competition.

“I want to first of all appreciate the president and leadership of NUGA for organising this 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games,” Chamberlain said. “The swimming event here in Abuja is a collaborative effort between the Aquatics Federation and NUGA. You can see the number of gold medals recorded so far — it shows there is a great future for aquatic sports in Nigeria.”

The NAqF President commended the initiative as a major step toward advancing aquatic sports in the country, noting that swimming remains one of Nigeria’s strongest medal-winning events.

“In the comity of sports, aquatic swimming has the highest number of gold medals,” he added. “If the country concentrates on the development of swimming, we will not lack in medal haul at both continental and international meets.”

Chamberlain emphasized that the collaboration with NUGA reflects the Federation’s long-term vision to strengthen grassroots participation and create a sustainable pathway for young athletes to rise through the ranks and represent Nigeria at international competitions.
