President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles on their emphatic 4–1 victory over Gabon in the FIFA World Cup qualifying Africa playoff, describing the performance as a testament to Nigeria’s resilience and renewed determination to secure a place at the global tournament.
Tinubu’s message was conveyed in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, titled “President Tinubu Celebrates Super Eagles’ 4–1 Victory Over Gabon, Says Nigeria’s March To The World Cup Continues.”
The President said the win demonstrated the Nigerian spirit that “rises, adapts, and prevails,” praising the team for playing with “courage, balance, and precision.” He noted that football remains one of the nation’s strongest symbols of unity and shared pride.

According to him, the result “adds fresh momentum to the national spirit” and strengthens the collective resolve to reach the World Cup finals.
Tinubu also commended the playing squad, coaching staff, and the technical and administrative teams for their “unwavering commitment to the national cause,” adding that their dedication has delivered a victory that reflects Nigeria’s abundant football talent.
He lauded fans at home and in the diaspora for their passion and loyalty, noting that public support often proves decisive in tight international fixtures.
Urging the Super Eagles to sustain the momentum, the President said the remaining qualifiers should be treated as opportunities to showcase discipline, character and determination.
“This is the true Nigerian spirit of resilience against all odds. Do not stop until you secure a qualification. Super Eagles, keep soaring. The nation stands with you,” he said.
