The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for securing a place in the semi-finals of the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following their 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday.
Commending the national team for their impressive and consistent performances since the start of the tournament, Speaker Abbas urged the Super Eagles to sustain the momentum and go on to win the AFCON title, bringing the coveted trophy back to Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Speaker expresses confidence in the team’s ability to overcome the hosts, Morocco, when they clash in the semi-final on Wednesday.
He assured the players and technical crew of his prayers and unwavering support as they push towards the final.
Speaker Abbas also lauded Nigerian sports authorities for providing adequate welfare and logistical support to the team, while calling for additional morale-boosting measures as the competition enters its decisive stages.
He further appealed to Nigerians to replicate the unity and support shown for the Super Eagles in other aspects of national life, noting that sports remain a powerful tool for national cohesion.
According to him, sports transcend ethnic and religious divisions, serve as a major source of employment, and hold significant economic potential for the country.
The Speaker concluded by wishing the Super Eagles a successful outing in the AFCON semi-finals and continued success in the tournament.
