Police Commissioner Launches Weapon and Riot Control Training for FCT Officers Democracy Radio
By Sofiat Adenekan-Abdul
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday carried out an inspection of major ongoing road and building projects in Abuja, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work.
The inspection tour covered the Institutional Research Road around Nile University and the Body of Benchers area in Abuja.
The minister described the road as critical due to the volume of traffic it is expected to carry.
According to him, contractors handling the project have assured the FCT Administration that work will be completed and handed over by the end of May 2026.
“This is a very important road. The work done here is encouraging, and the contractor has assured us that the project will be ready by the end of May,” the minister said during the inspection.
Wike also inspected the Body of Benchers Extension Building, where construction has reached about 80 per cent completion. He noted that only landscaping and finishing works remain.
From there, the minister proceeded to inspect major road projects stretching from Euclid to Bright and down to Tungan Madaki, covering a distance of not less than seven kilometres.
The road network includes a large conference facility and a four-span bridge, which he said would significantly open up the area and improve connectivity.
He explained that the road projects were initiated following concerns raised by host communities during compensation discussions, particularly demands for improved access to link their villages to the city.
“When compensation was being discussed, the communities insisted that the roads should also connect them to the city. What we are seeing here today is a promise made and a promise fulfilled,” Wike said.
The minister added that contractors have committed to completing the major road works between late May and early June 2026.
Responding to questions on whether political activities, including upcoming area council elections, could affect project execution, Wike dismissed such concerns.
“Politics is different from governance. Our duty is to serve the people, and politics will not affect the work,” he said.
He stressed that continuous monitoring and on-the-spot inspections would remain a key strategy to ensure timely delivery of projects, adding that visible infrastructure development remains central to improving the lives of residents across the FCT.
