The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) has commended the Nigerian Navy team for winning the Most Disciplined Team award at the 14th Korean Ambassador Cup Taekwondo Championship in Abuja.

NTF President, Grand Master Tayo Popoola, praised the team for its discipline, fair play and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Popoola said the Navy athletes distinguished themselves through their conduct and positive interaction with other participants, describing their recognition as well deserved.

“It was not a surprise that they got the award. They were everywhere and they mixed with others and displayed good spirit of sportsmanship. I salute the team and they should keep it up,” she said.

The championship, organised by the NTF, also featured an electrifying demonstration by the world-renowned Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team, which thrilled spectators at the Mo Arena with spectacular martial arts displays.

The South Korean team captivated fans with high-flying kicks, powerful strikes, precision movements and gravity-defying acrobatic routines, drawing enthusiastic cheers and applause.

The performance added international colour to the championship, inspiring young athletes with a demonstration of the skill, discipline and dedication required to excel in taekwondo.

South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Jeong Yo-an, urged Nigerian youths to embrace discipline, courage, perseverance and self-belief as essential values for sporting success and personal development.

Jeong, who gave the charge in Abuja on Sunday, encouraged young athletes to remain committed to their dreams regardless of competition outcomes.

He noted that taekwondo offers more than physical training, explaining that the martial art instils values that help young people build confidence, overcome challenges and contribute positively to society.

The 14th edition of the championship brought together taekwondo practitioners while promoting sporting and cultural relations between Nigeria and South Korea.
