The Federal Executive Council has approved ₦631.3 billion for nine road projects across Nigeria.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this to State House correspondents after Wednesday’s FEC meeting, presided over by President Bola Tinubu.

According to the Federal Ministry of Works, the approvals cover road construction, rehabilitation and remedial works in several states.

The projects include the 81.1-kilometre Ado–Ilawe–Ilumaba–Ikole Road in Ekiti State, the 95-kilometre Etuke–Okene–Ankpa–Otopa Road in Kogi State and the Bichi Ring Road in Kano State.

Other projects include interventions in Adamawa and Taraba states, remedial works on the East-West Road and rehabilitation of the Sokoto–Illela Road.

The ministry said the projects are expected to improve road connectivity, ease the movement of goods and agricultural produce, reduce transport costs and create jobs.

Umahi also said 118 kilometres of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway had been completed, while work on the remaining sections was nearing completion.

He said the completed sections feature asphalt and concrete pavements, with solar-powered streetlights installed to improve visibility and safety at night.
