Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, National Assembly (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, has described the demise of Prof. Nuhu Yaqub as a big loss to the academic world and Nigeria in general.

According to him, the former Vice Chancellor of the Sokoto state University and University of Abuja made an indelible mark in National development and would be sorely missed.

The NILDS boss made the remarks at the Gudu Cemetery in Abuja, shortly after the interment of the late Prof. Yaqub who until his death was the Chairman of the NILDS Academic Advisory Board.

“The loss of Prof. Yaqub is a personal loss for me, he was the person that offered me pensionable employment more than two decades ago, he has been a father to me, he was my mentor, leader and consummate administrator, a core and disciplined academics, he is a role model to some of us. Until his demise he was with me as the Chairman of the advisory board of our institute, he has been doing that for the past five years”

“He has added value to what we are doing. So it’s a loss to us at the institute, It’s a loss to the National Assembly, it’s a loss to this country, there is no doubt about that and I don’t know who is going to replace him as far as i and the institute as a family are concerned”.

“When you look for a forthright academic, you see that in Nuhu Yaqub, when you look for a seasoned administrator, you see that in Nuhu Yaqub, when you look for a pious leader, you see that in Nuhu Yaqub. He is an embodiment of virtues in all ramifications. It’s an irreparable loss to this country. This is a time we need such people as Nuhu Yaqub in this country, a time the country needed him most is the time he left us behind”.

“I think from his good deeds, from the number of students he has mentored, from the people he has given life to, people that lost hope in life, including myself, I think with all those good deeds, Allah will forgive all his trespasses and grant him Aljanat Firdaus.” Prof. Sulaiman said.

On his part, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Jega who was present at the interment to pay his last respect, hailed Prof. Yaqub for his contribution to the development of Education in the country and other spheres of life, describing his demise as a sad loss.

“We pray that Almighty Allah will reward him for all his good works and we pray that Allah comforts his wife, children and the rest of his family, it is indeed a big sad loss for all of us” Jega stated.

Son of the deceased, Hashim Yaqub said he would forever cherish the memories of his late Father whom he described as a selfless, humble and kind hearted father to all.
